What is the Affordable Care Act (ACA)?
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a health care reform act enacted in 2010 with the goal of increasing the affordability and accessibility of health care in the United States.
Under the Employer Shared Responsibility Provision of the ACA, commonly referred to as the Employer Mandate, Applicable Large Employers (ALEs) are required to offer health insurance that provides minimum essential coverage that is “affordable” and provides “minimum value” to their full-time employees (and their dependents).
ALEs are then required to file forms 1094/1095C with the IRS and distribute copies of the 1095-C forms to their full-time employees. ALEs are employers with 50 or more full time or full-time equivalents (FTEs) or small organizations with fewer than 50 FTEs that are aggregated to a larger employer group, under certain common ownership, resulting in a total aggregated employee count of 50 or more FTEs.
Form 1095-C are distributed to full time eligible employees as defined by the IRS.
