# Managing IP Addresses for Web Clock
## Managing IP Addresses for Web Clock
Users with access to **Time Management > Time Clock > Configuration** can now access the IP Configuration screen to set up new IP addresses, modify existing addresses and specify if they can be used on a PC and/or ESS App for their company.
*An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a string of numbers that identifies any device on a network. Computers use IP addresses to communicate with each other both over the internet as well as on other networks.*
IP addresses assigned to a company dictate where employees can clock in and out from.
There are two options for IP addresses:
1. **Specific IP Addresses**
This will “lock down” the web clock feature so employees can only clock in/out when connected to the IP addresses added to your company.
1. 1. If employees are not connected to one of the IP addresses listed, then they will not be able to clock in/out.
2. **Open IP Range**
This will allow employees to clock in/out from any location, regardless of IP address.
1. 1. The IP range is set up as 0.0.0.0 – 255.255.255.255 to cover all possible IP addresses.
***When adding IP addresses, it is recommended to work with someone within your organization who is responsible for IT or network related tasks. This will ensure you have the correct IP address information before adding, editing, or removing an entry on the screen.***
**Add a new IP Address**
To add new IP addresses for your company, navigate to **Time Management > Time Clock > Configuration** and select the IP tab.
1. A list of the configured IP addresses, if any, is displayed on this screen.
2. Select ‘Add New’ to add a new IP range.
3. On the **IP** screen, specify the following:
**IP Range Start**
- Enter the IP address to add.
- If adding a range of IPs, you will need to add the lowest number in the range in this field.
**IP Range End**
- Enter the last IP address in the range.
- If adding a single IP address, click the arrow button to the right of the ***IP Range Start*** to copy/paste the previously entered IP address into the range end.
**Use an Open IPv4 Range**
- If selected, this will auto fill the *IP Range Start* and *IP Range End* with 0.0.0.0 and 255.2555.255.255 respectively, allowing employees to clock in/out from any location.
**Use with Web Clock (browser)**
- Selecting this allows employees to clock in/out from a computer (desktop, laptop, etc.).
**Use with ESS Mobile App**
- Selecting this allows employees to clock in/out from the Checkwriters ESS app.
- **Please note, if you do not see the** *Use with ESS Mobile App* **option and you would like to give employees the ability to clock in/out through the app, please contact Checkwriters to enable this option.**
4. Select Save when finished to add this IP address or IP address range.
#### **Edit or delete an existing IP Range**
To edit or delete IP addresses for your company, navigate to **Time Management > Time Clock > Setup** and select the **IP** tab.
From this screen, select the pencil icon to **edit** an existing IP Address entry.
- The same screen used when adding IPs will appear, allowing you to make changes to it.
Select the trash can icon to **delete** an existing IP address entry
- Once removed, employees will no longer be able to clock in/out with that IP address.
